Our Case Studies
Real Stories, Real Impact
“Whenever I am around the PAT PROJECT community, it gives me a sense of belonging and friendship that I have found challenging in the last couple of years. Nan and the community team have been great in pulling me out and away from my comfort zone and I have enjoyed every second. I’ve been involved in parent events and coffee mornings in the summer with Pat and other parents who have been going through the same difficulties with their kids. I have been able to speak to people mother me and not feel alone and not mad to feel like I’m the only worst mum in the world! My son was NEET and causing so much trouble now he goes to college sourced by Nana in his team and engages so well I’m so proud of him.”
Marie, a local resident, first interacted with PAT PROJECT when her son was referred to the service from a social care team. Marie was looking for that sense of belonging away from home that would allow him to become more sociable and meet new people. She immediately found his place by attending PAT’s parent events, and she has now become a valued volunteer. You will often see Marie helping with goody bags or drinks at PAT events, passing on the warmth that initially attracted her to our community.
Testimonial:
“I just cannot thank the PAT PROJECT enough. My son would not be in school if he didn’t meet the guys and what they have done for him—I have never seen anything like it before. My son used to smash up my house, but now we have a much better relationship and he is more enjoyable to be around.”
Background:
During a Child in Need (CIN) meeting in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD), significant barriers to education for a young person were identified. The child, referred for mentoring support, was struggling due to a lack of basic necessities—there was no food in the fridge and he did not have the proper school uniform, including essential school trousers. Although professionals suggested long-term solutions such as food banks and voucher schemes, there was no immediate resolution to the crisis.
Intervention by PAT PROJECT:
Understanding the urgency of the situation, PAT PROJECT Director Lauric took decisive action. Rather than waiting for long-term support mechanisms to take effect, he personally reassured the mother that immediate help would be provided. Lauric arranged to meet her later that same day at 4 PM, delivering a week’s worth of groceries and two pairs of school trousers. This prompt intervention ensured that the key barrier preventing the child from attending school was removed.
Impact & Outcome:
Lauric’s hands-on approach provided the family with the immediate relief they desperately needed, allowing the young person to resume his education without the weight of unmet basic needs. This swift action not only addressed the family's urgent crisis but also restored dignity and stability during a challenging time. This case exemplifies PAT PROJECT’s core mission—bridging the gap for tomorrow by acting today—and highlights the critical role of responsive, personalised support in transforming lives.

Hear From Our Success Stories
The Prison Awareness Team delivered a 6-week programme to our two groups of young people. The subject matter was varied and was designed by Nana and Lauric with us to meet the specific needs of our group who have varying learning styles. Every session had a powerful message behind it regarding behaviour and consequences. The feedback at the end from the young people was that the programme was not long enough, and they were left wanting to learn more which is always a good outcome.
Youth Health Programmes Coordinator
"Before I started mentoring with PAT PROJECT, I felt like no one really listened to me. I was struggling in school, getting into trouble, and didn’t see a way forward. My mentor helped me believe in myself, set goals, and make better choices. Now, I’m back on track with my education and even thinking about my future career. Without PAT PROJECT, I don’t know where I’d be. They’ve given me a second chance, and I know I can succeed in life."
Jayden, 16, LBBD Student
"PAT PROJECT has made a remarkable difference in our school and the wider borough. Their mentoring program has helped reduce exclusions, improve student engagement, and create a more positive school environment. Many of our most vulnerable students have turned their lives around thanks to their support. The presence of PAT PROJECT in our community has made our borough a safer, more hopeful place for young people, giving them the opportunities they truly deserve."
MRS. Douglas, Head Teacher, LBBD Secondary School
"As a social worker, I have seen firsthand how PAT PROJECT transforms young lives. They don’t just mentor—they step in where others can’t, bridging gaps and providing real, immediate support. Whether it’s helping a family in crisis, guiding a young person away from crime, or simply being a consistent, positive presence, their impact is undeniable. Our borough is a better, safer, and more empowered place because of PAT PROJECT."
